These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Helpfl Family mobile application (the "App"). By downloading or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
These Terms cover Helpfl Family only. Our habit tracker, Helpfl, has its own terms at helpfl.io/habits/terms. How we handle information in the App is described in the Helpfl Family Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
1. The Service
Helpfl Family is a family chore tracker. A parent sets up a family, adds a profile for each child, and creates recurring chores, one-off tasks, and rewards. A child marks a chore done on their own device by scanning an NFC tag the parent has set up, or by taking a photo of the finished chore, and a parent then approves it. Approved chores earn points, an optional allowance amount, and rewards from a family store the parent stocks.
On a child's device, a parent can choose to block selected apps using Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) features until a chore is done. Blocked apps unlock when the child scans the chore's tag or sends its photo, or when a parent unlocks them for a while from their own device. The App also includes reminders, an Apple Watch companion for parents, and the Premium features described in Section 5. Features and availability may change over time.
2. Who Can Use the App
Parents. You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) and the parent or legal guardian of each child you add, or have their permission, to create a family or join one as a parent. Parents sign in with Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google and are responsible for keeping that account secure and for activity under it.
Children. Children use the App only on a device a parent has linked to the family with the parent's pairing code. Children do not create accounts. By adding a child and linking their device, you accept these Terms on the child's behalf, and you are responsible for the child's use of the App and for supervising it.
3. Families and Parents
A family is created by one parent (the "owner"). Any parent in the family can invite another parent with a one-time code. Only the owner can remove a parent, at any time; a removed parent immediately loses access to the family. Every parent in a family can see and manage all of its children, chores, rewards, and records, and can approve or decline chores. Only invite parents you trust with that access.
You can delete your account from Me → Delete account in the App. If you are the family's only parent, this deletes the whole family. If other parents remain, the family stays with them, and if you were the owner, the parent who has been in the family longest becomes the owner. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is deleted and when.
4. Chores, Rewards, and Allowance
Points and rewards exist only inside the App. They have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be transferred outside the family. Rewards in the family store are promises a parent makes to their own child; Helpfl doesn't provide, fulfil, or guarantee them.
Allowance amounts are a record the App keeps for you. The App never holds, sends, or receives money. Paying a child is up to the parent, outside the App, and marking an amount as paid in the App only updates the record.
Proof photos should show the finished chore. Parents should set photo chores up so the child photographs the task, not themselves or anyone else. Photos expire at the end of the day they are taken.
5. Subscriptions (Family Premium)
The App is free for a family with one parent and one child. An auto-renewing subscription, Family Premium, unlocks more children, additional parents, Insights, and Vacation mode (including pausing individual chores). It is available on a monthly or yearly basis.
- Whole-family access. Premium is bought by one parent on their Apple Account and unlocks Premium for every parent in that family while it's active. Billing and cancellation stay with the parent who bought it. If that parent is removed from the family or deletes their account, the subscription is not cancelled, and the family keeps Premium only until the current paid period ends.
- Price and billing. The price is shown in the App before you purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-renewal. Your subscription automatically renews for the same period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Free trial. If a free trial is offered and you do not cancel before it ends, it automatically converts to a paid subscription. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
- Managing and cancelling. You can manage or cancel your subscription from Me → Family Premium → Manage in App Store in the App, or in your Apple Account settings. Deleting the App, or your account, does not cancel a subscription.
- When Premium ends. Your family keeps everything it created. Features beyond the free tier (for example, adding another child or planning a vacation) become locked until Premium is active again.
- Refunds. Purchases are processed by Apple and are subject to Apple's refund policies. We do not directly process refunds.
6. Screen Time, NFC, and Device Features
The App relies on Apple's Family Controls, Managed Settings, Device Activity, NFC, camera, and notification capabilities. These features depend on permissions granted on each device and on the device's operating system. We do not guarantee that app blocking will be perfect or uninterrupted. A child may be able to get around blocking, for example if the device's iOS Screen Time passcode isn't set; the App's setup guide explains how to set one.
NFC tags are sold by third parties, not by us. The App links to tags for sale on Amazon through an affiliate link, and we may earn a commission from purchases made through it.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to misuse the App, including by reverse-engineering it (except where permitted by law), interfering with its operation, attempting to bypass purchase or security mechanisms, uploading content that is unlawful or that you don't have the right to share, or using it to violate any law or the rights of others, including a child's.
8. License to Use the App
The App, including its software, design, and trademarks, is owned by Helpfl, LLC and its licensors. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for your family's personal, non-commercial use in accordance with these Terms. No other rights are granted.
9. Your Content
You retain ownership of the chores, rewards, photos, and other content your family creates. You grant us a limited license to store and process that content solely to operate the App for your family. You are responsible for the content your family creates.
10. Disclaimers
The App is a parenting and organisation tool. Do not rely on it in any situation where a blocked app, a missed notification, or delayed access could affect a child's safety. Set up app blocking so your child can always reach you and emergency services, and remember that you, not the App, are responsible for supervising your child and their device.
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. Helpfl Family is not a medical, clinical, parenting-advice, or financial service.
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Helpfl, LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF FIFTY DOLLARS ($50) OR THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these limits may not apply to you.
12. Indemnification
You will indemnify and hold Helpfl, LLC harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the App, including by anyone using the App through your family, except to the extent caused by our own breach of these Terms.
13. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms. You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time. Sections 4 (Chores, Rewards, and Allowance), 9 (Your Content), 10 (Disclaimers), 11 (Limitation of Liability), 12 (Indemnification), 14 (Apple-Required Terms), and 16 (Governing Law) survive termination.
14. Apple-Required Terms
These Terms are between you and Helpfl, LLC, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for the App. In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted here with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
16. Governing Law and Contact
These Terms are governed by the laws of United States, Alabama, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts having jurisdiction over Shelby County, Alabama, and you consent to that venue. Questions? Contact [email protected].
